Gorge
walking is one of the remaining 'true' outdoor education
activities. It combines rock climbing with rock hopping skills
with the ability to move in water. Ultimately it is a fun action
packed activity guaranteed to get the adrenaline flowing for all ages
and abilities.
There are a number of challenging rivers and streams that are suitable
for this activity in North Devon. The location is carefully
selected based on weather movement and the technical ability of the
group.
A gorge walk experience will begin with you getting kitted up in full
water sports equipment, wet suit, buoyancy aid and helmet. A
short safety brief is given to outline hazards and to give you the
skills to move safely as part of a team in this open environment.
The group will then complete a journey upstream conquering waterfalls,
undertaking rock slides and solving initiative tasks en-route.
Along the way, team dynamics will be examined with the open opportunity
for each team member to lead a challenge.
One guarantee is that you will come out the other side of which ever
gorge you have entered with a big smile and to a bombardment of
questions from bystanders!
Gorge walking is a half day activity in its own right. It
can easily be linked with other adventurous activities to form part of
a full day.
