Orienteering Adventure

Torrington Commons is an idyllic location for Orienteering.  The lie of the land and network of surfaced pathways make it safe but challenging for all ages and abilities.

Star & score orienteering courses can easily be set out from a centrally manned position with good visual surveillance over participants.

Map reading is a key life skill; once learnt it can be applied to a range of everyday situations.  Alongside actual map reading, the activities will encourage participants to consider orientation of land to map and vice versa.

A competitive element can be introduced to this package, encouraging young people to work in small teams.  Team dynamics can become another focus to this experience.

Torrington Common land is open to public access all year round.  With adult supervision it is possible to create a controlled wilderness experience, with safety always being the primary focus.

Due to the intensity of Orienteering, team development tasks are introduced throughout the day to help participants reflect on performance and tactics.

This day is always enjoyed by all involved, often resulting in adults becoming more competitive than the children!!   Dust off your map collection and start practicing.
