On site activity days

Map Building & Orienteering
Working in and outside of the classroom, young people will have the opportunity to build 3 dimensional models of their school, then to use these models to plan and execute an orienteering event.

This project will incorporate curricular skills from a range of core and non-core subjects.

The morning will see children mapping the school grounds, before turning 2- D maps into plan view topographical equivalents.  These will then be built upon, using corrugated card to represent the shape of the landscape.  Once raised, maps will then be covered in Papier Mache to create feature flow.
The afternoon will see children, using their maps to plan a score orienteering course around the school grounds, or an extended area if necessary.

The finale to the day is the orienteering event, followed up by a review of the mapping accuracy and overall success of the day.
