Woodland Experience



Set in the N. Devon countryside amongst broadleaf woodlands is a classroom of discovery and enquiry.   Your class will leave school and embark on a day that will be remembered and treasured by all.  Skills learnt during this experience go far deeper than those outlined by the National Curriculum, sending young people home with the knowledge and understanding of living and surviving outdoors.

Curricular subject base:  PSHE, Science, Maths and Physical Education. 

Maximum class size:  32 - (4 groups of 8)

Number of adults required:  4 - (to include a qualified teacher)


Outline of the Day

1.    Register at school 09.00a.m.
2.    Depart School 09.15a.m.
3.    Arrive at Woodland venue.
4.    Groupings/equipment/safety talk 10.30a.m.
5.    Sensory blindfold team task.
6.    Safety talk and scenario setting.
7.    Shelter building in groups.
8.    Assessment of survival knowledge and team dynamics.
9.    Lunch 13.00pm.
10.  Round robin of team building activities.
11.  Nature walk along the Tarka Trail to meet bus.
12.  Board bus to be back at school for 15.30pm.

All school staff or helpers are actively involved in the day's activities.  More often than not, the adults enjoy this day as much as the children!
